Key Terms
I Application — transaction data tables. For example: Lega|Cons, Sales Planning, HR
Planning, Rates. A BPC application = a BW |nfoCube
I Dimensions — master data. For example: Legal Subs, Accounts, Version. A BPC
dimension = a BW characteristic
I AppSets — an environment for applications and dimensions
I Business Process Flow — a set of steps and sub steps for a process such as planning
or consolidations. Used to track progress and provide guided navigation
I Dynamic Hierarchy Editor — interface used to manage ownership data such as %
ownership. Only needed for ownership eliminations
I EVDRE — Everest Dynamic Range Exchange. The primary reporting function in BPC
excel. An array based reporting function
I Work Status — used to set work states which control data input. For example, after
the period close is complete, approve the period — which turns off any further
changes
I Business rules — tables with parameters used to perform consolidation tasks such as
balance carry forward, reclassifications, eliminations, etc

fliicrosoft Office Integration
I Provides access to Word, PowerPoint and Excel
from within SAP BPC
I Includes connectivity to the BPC applications so
that you can include live data and reports in your
Word documents and PowerPoint presentations
I Utilizes the same Current View across the three
Office applications
I Business Planning and Consolidation (BPC) for
Office combines the power of BPC with the rich
functionality of Microsoft Excel, Word and
PowerPoint. With BPC for Office, you have all of
the Microsoft functionality you are used to, plus,
your worksheets, documents, and slide shows can
be linked directly to the BPC central database that
houses your company's reporting data.

Data manager Uueruieui
DM Package is a BPC module that helps managing the data moving in and out of
applications, as well as to copy or move data within and across applications
Supports mapping and complex transformations of data
BPC is delivered with a set of packages to meet many data management needs
BPC can be used to load data system to system or via flat files
Accessed from Excel via ‘Manage Data’

Logic Types
In BPC you can use four different types of logic:
I Worksheet Logic — local calculations that are worksheet—specific.
I Dimension Member Logic — formulas that are dimension member—specific, across
applications, that are calculated on—the—f|y. Some Dimension Member formulas are
delivered. You can add your own as well.
I Script Logic — app|ication—specific calculations that run as you specify, either
automatically after every data send, or scheduled and/or run manually.
I Business Rules — parameter—based logic that is used for legal and management
consolidations.
Flllocation Engine: Uueruiew
I With the help of the allocation engine we want to distribute data from one sender
to several receivers. This feature is very often used in Planning as a top—down
scenario.
I Example: simple allocation script that spreads evenly a yearly UNITS entered on
2004_|nput to all months of 2004
*RUNALLOCATION
*FACTOR = I / COUNT
*DIM ACCOUNT WHAT = UNITS; WHERE = <<<
*DIM TIME WHAT = 2004_INPUT; WHERE = BAS(2004.TOTAL)
*ENDALLOCATION

Drill through — Introduction
I Drill — through is an interface for Excel feature that allows detailed data from an
external source to be viewed by clicking the Drill — through option from the Action
Pane from a cell in a report for which a dri||—through has been defined
I An administrator must configure drill—through for the cell in order to see its data
I Drill—through is available on any cell that contains an EVDRE formula. ln BPC MS platform,
drill—through is also available on cells containing EVGTS and EVGET
I You can drill through to the following types of data sources
the Microsoft platform -External database
-The Journals table
-Any URL
SAP NetWeaver -Any URL
Ualidations Uueruiew
I “Validations” are designed to prevent “incorrect” records being saved to the cube.
What is deemed an “incorrect” record needs to be controlled by the customer.
I An example of an incorrect record is one where you have specified an
intercompany account, but left the Trading Partner dimension empty.
I The Validations introduce the concept of the “Driver Dimension”.
I The driver dimension is the dimension in each application that the validation rules
will be created from. In most cases, it is the Account dimension, but it can be any
dimension.
lllhat ls Concurrency Locking?
I This process is initiated only when the user tries to save the data.
I Even if there is one record in the selected data region that is locked by another data
lock anywhere in the Business Intelligence (BI) system, the whole request is not
saved.
I If the lock is obtained, then the delta records are saved.
I If the request fails, it can be resubmitted and if successful in obtaining the lock, the
request is then saved.
I This process is also done for each data package
I Timing of when locks are obtained:
I In SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, locks are obtained only during the write—back
process. A lock can not be persisted at the time of read.
